How to Remove Coffee Stains from Carpet
Coffee stains can cause a carpet to look brown and ugly. Even if most of the stain is removed, the area can end up with a noticeable yellow discoloration.
Most people who see a carpet that’s been stained by coffee and not cleaned well won’t realize the nature of the stain, they’ll just think the carpet looks old and dirty. Therefore it’s important to treat the stain properly and get all of the coffee out of the carpet.
Follow these steps to remove coffee stains from our carpet:
1) Take action immediately!
The longer you wait, the further the coffee will spread, the more it will dry, and the more difficult it will be to remove.
2) Blot with a dry cloth
Blot up as much coffee as possible with a dry cloth. If it’s a big spill, get a new cloth as soon as the one you’re using feels somewhat saturated so you don’t accidentally spread the stain with a saturated cloth.
3) Spray with water and vinegar
Create a mixture of water and white vinegar (a one to one ratio) and put it into a spritzer / spray bottle. Spray the entire stain. Then blot it with a dry cloth. Repeat this several times.
4) Shaving cream
If after several treatments with water and vinegar, you still seem some discoloration, try spraying the area with shaving cream and let it set for 30 minutes. Blot the shaving cream with a dry cloth. Then give it one more treatment with water and vinegar.
If your stain is particularly large or stubborn, you may need to call a professional carpet cleaner.
